How can I make these foods taste good in a recipe: lentils and kale.?

I want to make lentils and kale part of my new healthy diet, bit I tried the lentils in a soup, one with tomatoes and one with just onion and carrots, used vege stock for both, and I just didn't like the taste of them. Just had a strange flavor and texture. The kale was horrible tasting. I took a bite of one piece and about puked then threw it away. Had a really bitter flavor to it, nothing like romaine or spinach. Maybe I should just forget these ones, lol.
