Going vegan - is it healthy - please help?

You will be perfectly fine. She is just saying that because we were all taught that protein and dairy are essential part of your diet. It really isn't and there are plenty of people who are vegan that are doing well. The only concern I have is with vit b-12. That is essential for your body and can only get it from animal products, so I suggest you get it in the form of a vitamin supplement. Don't panic about it as your body stores about a 3 years supply of it. Also be careful of the processed foods associated with vegan eating, they may contain alot of sodium. Studies have shown that eating low protein actually is better for your body and helps you live longer. I suggest you read the book....The China Study by T.Colin Campbell and then have your mom read it. Good Luck
